Allow me to preface this 'critique' with a slight disclaimer: I am neither a professional photographer nor a digital photo manipulator; my deviations, both internal and artistic are of a different nature. #nuffsaid

As no EXIF information is supplied I make the following assumptions: the artist has either removed all EXIF information during manipulation or the original image was highly processed or processed from a scanned print.

Therefore my critique will be limited to the impact and handling of the image itself and not to the original image capture.

The image is a combination of hue desaturation and accenting of the eyes. There is a fine retention of textural detail in the image. Masterfully executed. The model, assuming this is a self-portrait, is well represented as a lovely woman; her pose is inviting of both desire and concern; 'une qualité de la femme se, non?'

The subject's eye, has been set off in subtle blue-grey (touching) (me) (uniquely); and with the darks and shadows of the background and physique itself, are a tiny 'startle' and increase the image's impact.

Composition of the image is simple yet delightful, the majority negative space and verticals draw the eye immediately to the subject's eye then along the wonderful vertical of her nose; and yes, everyone knows I have this (adoration) of complex noses, but in this case that structure is minimized with the direct facing pose and it serves 'compositionally' to the arch of the lip and the lower lips vertical, and here I do have an 'issue', probably due to the reduced size of the image that I am currently viewing. I'm at a 'toss up' over whether the subject's lower lip has been 'painted' in the original image, photo manipulated in this processed image, or is possessed of a piercing; and yes everyone knows I have a 'thing' about loving certain piercings.

I balanced in my assessment, the effects of those three possibilities, and of the impact of either guilding the vertical or of enhancing it's three dimensionality; realizing that either of those would draw the eye and fix it there, rather than the central focal point of the eye.

Eye travel/Composition Summary: Eye, nose, lip, chin and jawline, wrist, fingers, eye; the composition captures a viewer’s (mine at least) search for symmetry. The negative (dark) space is complete and compositionally integrated, as well as it utilizing the hair fall perfectly as a compositional element.

Summary: a delightful handling of a wonderful photograph, excellent work.
